3,500 km's Brisbane to Cairns

Ben from CATCH Power and James from Fronius are hitting the road for an epic 3,500 km journey from Brisbane to Cairns—and they’re bringing the ultimate solar & EV showdown with them!

While there will be plenty of fun (and maybe a little friendly competition between the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3), this trip is also a prime opportunity to book a training session with the boys. Learn firsthand why CATCH Power and Fronius make the perfect partnership and how you can future-proof your installs with smarter energy management.

They’ll be stopping at solar businesses all along the route, so don’t miss your chance to lock in a training session while they’re in your area!

Day 5

Day 5: Back on the Road!

After a well-earned weekend recharge in Airlie Beach, I hit the road once again—meeting some fantastic locals along the way before pushing onwards to Townsville.

With James Hazell, James Graham (MAICD), CATCH Power, and Fronius Australia in the mix, the momentum is only building!

Now sitting at a whopping 1,486 km traveled so far, and there’s still plenty more to come. Onward and upward!

Day 6

Good Morning! Time to Unpack Day 6

Woke up to non-stop rain in Townsville—but turns out, it was a blessing in disguise! With tradies putting their tools down, we had an amazing opportunity to dive deep into all things CATCH Power and Fronius Australia with none other than James Hazell.

We connected with some of the best and brightest in the industry, as well as the next generation of solar installers working through their Grid Connect Solar Training. Huge thanks to James Graham (MAICD) for letting us crash the solar school session—you bloody legend!

Unfortunately, our plans to head north to Cairns hit a serious roadblock—Ingham was underwater... again.  Another brutal reminder of how unpredictable the Queensland climate can be.

But, as always, we adapt! Instead of Cairns, I made the ultimate sacrifice and rerouted to a truly hellish place... none other than Airlie Beach.

Yes, I was forced to endure another night in the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef—what a tragic turn of events.

Day 7

The Plan vs. Reality: Rockhampton to Mackay

📍 Planned Route: Rockhampton → Mackay → Proserpine → Cannonvale → Airlie Beach
📍 Reality: Woke up in Airlie Beach… again!

Despite the weather not being on our side, we made the most of the morning, catching up with a local electrician before finally heading south toward Mackay. After a delicious lunch with an impressive installer, we were back on the road, bound for Rockhampton.

Unfortunately, heavy rain and the poor state of the Bruce Highway made for a slow and frustrating drive. This major national highway is in serious need of attention—a fact that became all too clear as we navigated its challenges.

Finally reaching Rockhampton, we took advantage of Tesla’s Supercharger Network to top up before pushing on to Gladstone.

Rolling into town, the bright lights of the NRG Gladstone Power Station were an awe-inspiring sight—only matched by the dramatic flare🔥 from the Shell LNG plant. A stark reminder of the energy landscape we’re working to transform.

Onward to the next stop!
