Your solar will offset your general household usage first, such as your dishwasher, computer and general 'stand by' appliances.

Larger loads like kettles, dryers, and air conditioning units, are a little more complicated. Even though you may be generating solar, the full load may not fit completely under the solar curve and may use some mains power to support the load.

Any surplus solar will be sent to the grid for a 'Feed in Tariff'. CATCH Solar Relay aim's to 'shift' loads to fit under the solar curve in the most efficient way, to use more of the solar that is being produced.

The difference between running a load inside the solar curve and exporting to the grid can be as much as a $0.20 cents savings if not more, depending on your energy plan.

What happens if there is not enough exported Solar to run my load?

When your electrician commissions your CATCH Control Series, they will enter a 'Top up Mode' This will ensure a minimum run time of your load. You can select when you want this to run (for time of use metering, if applicable)

For example; setting a 'Top up Mode' of 4 hours, will ensure the load runs for a minimum of 4 hours a day. If the load runs from your export for 3.5 hours, the additional half hour will be run during the top up mode. This ensures that your pool pump, runs for a required time each day, or that you don't go without hot water.

What happens if my Wi-Fi drops out?

When a single Relay is used, your relay receives it's messages through a CT. Meaning if your Wi-Fi drops out, your load will still run as normal.

What is an Energy Meter and why does CATCH Control Series replace it?

An Energy meter is what allows you to monitor your consumption data and export. Without the installation of an Energy meter (or CATCH Control) you will only see your production data and not be able to see your consumption data.

CATCH Control is compatible with over 10 popular inverter brands, this means we can control the inverter and report this data up to the chosen monitoring platform. By substituting the inverters energy meter with a CATCH Control, you can access all the benefits of a standard Energy meter, with the added benefit of Load Control for one affordable price.

Does CATCH work with Batteries?
Please note, for hybrid installations CATCH Power is wired in on the LINE side of the hybrid inverter CT. Wiring CATCH outside the hybrid Inverter CT means the hot water load cannot be seen by the battery system. You can find the Hybrid installation manual here

With Hybrid installations, because CATCH sits outside of the view of the battery, it will not appear on your monitoring platform. Household loads will always be the Solar's first priority, then the battery, with any excess going to the load controlled by the Relay.

*Please note with Hybrid sites, the Monocle, our monitoring platform will not currently pick up State of Charge of your battery and will not report data until the batteries are fully charged. *Please note, we are working on a fix for this in the near future*

Can I keep my Off Peak?

CATCH Control only allows for one input, you can time your top up modes for time of use metering, but if you would like to keep your Off Peak, Green CATCH maybe the better solution for your needs.

Please note our products are currently only available in Single Phase units. We can still control loads on 3phase sites and do have a 3phase relay schedule for release soon!
