It’s no surprise that battery rebates and new tech are transforming the energy landscape. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of new technology and exciting features. But sometimes, simplicity is exactly what you need—and that’s where Green CATCH still shines.

I look at Green CATCH as the equivalent to the old Nokia 3315, remember those? Built like a tank, easy to use, and most importantly, reliable. It may lack flashy apps and a coloured screen, but it gives you solid, dependable control over your hot water system, effortlessly using surplus solar energy.

So let’s break down exactly when Green CATCH is still the right solution—and when it loses some of it's shine.
When is Green CATCH the perfect choice?
Single-phase homes with smaller solar setups: Ideal when you have limited surplus solar energy to export. It captures even the smallest excess solar and diverts it seamlessly to heat your water, helping lower your bills and boosting self-consumption. A typical 5 kW solar system paired with Green CATCH can offset up to 90-95% of your hot water usage from surplus solar alone.
Homeowners seeking simplicity, If you want a robust, straightforward solution without complicated setups, Green CATCH is your answer.
"Set it and forget it" convenience.
But what if you want more?
If you're looking to leverage wholesale energy plans like Amber Electric, Green CATCH isn’t your go too.
Why not?
Because Green CATCH lacks Wi-Fi and smart integration capabilities, it can’t recognise market price signals. If Amber sends a signal for your battery to discharge during peak pricing periods, Green CATCH simply sees it as export and diverts it to your hot water. That’s lost earnings and missed opportunities - and no one wants that!
This is where CATCH Control Comes in.
If you want smart, market-based load management, CATCH Control is your ideal solution.
CATCH Control integrates with market signals and seamlessly coordinates your entire energy ecosystem—Inverters, batteries, hot water systems, EV chargers or any other connected load. When energy prices go negative, you can even get paid to heat your water. Smart, flexible, and future-proof, CATCH Control effortlessly handles multiple inverters and batteries on-site.
Three-Phase Applications
Green CATCH is purposely designed for single-phase setups. On a three-phase property, it can only 'see' one-third of available surplus energy. Therefore, we recommend at least a 9 kW solar array for effective use on three-phase properties with Green CATCH. However, with battery rebates now in play, we don't recommend Green CATCH if you're planning to install or already have battery storage- they just don't play nicely together.
Instead, our 6-channel CATCH Control offers complete visibility and management for three-phase homes with batteries, ensuring optimal performance and full site control.
In a rapidly evolving solar market, choosing the right product can feel overwhelming—but it doesn't have to be. Whether you prefer the robust simplicity of Green CATCH or the advanced flexibility of CATCH Control, our aim is always to help you get the best from your solar investment.
